A balcony overlooking the Mediterranean, in the very heart of Europe: Trieste is a cosmopolitan city, a fascinating place with a wealth of history just waiting to be discovered. Since days gone by it’s always been a place where different peoples have met and the Mediterranean and Middle-European cultures mixed, a place that has inspired and continues to inspire poets, writers and intellectuals like Rilke, Svevo, Joyce and Magris. Whatever the time of year, a visit to Trieste is always a pleasant surprise, and an experience you’ll never forget.
Our staff remains at the complete disposal of owners, crew and personnel to provide support to help organise spare time during your stay, recommending activities both in town and in the area.
From its splendid sea-facing piazza to its museums and gardens, Trieste is much loved by lovers of beauty, art and culture. The bright white Miramare Castle overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, the ruins of the old Roman city, the old town alleys and the grand Liberty and Neoclassical buildings give the city a truly unique character. This is especially true when the “bora”, the powerful wind that’s made Trieste famous all over the world, blows across its shores and down its streets.
But that’s not all. Trieste also offers shopping, historic cafés, restaurants and quality food-and-wine for connoisseurs, music concerts and sporting events, such as the “Barcolana” regatta, trendy haunts and nightlife.
Just outside the city limits you’ll immediately find yourself immersed in nature: in the midst of the characteristic Karst Plateau, Trieste offers numerous open-air activities such as excursions, mountain bike trips or the unforgettable experience of climbing a cliff over the sea.
Trieste is the capital of Friuli Venezia Giulia, a small region with an incredible variety of different landscapes, that goes from the Adriatic to the Alps and has its heart in the picturesque Collio hills, where you can explore some interesting towns such as Cividale del Friuli, Udine, Aquileia and Grado, and taste some of the fine local wines.
Thanks to its position, the city is also the ideal starting point for one or two day trips to many sites of interest in the area, Venice first and foremost, which can be reached by train or car in just over an hour. The green land of Slovenia is just across the border, with its breath-taking Postumia Cave and its young, modern capital Ljubljana, and you can explore the Istria peninsula and visit Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. For skiers, the region offers many top level ski resorts.
